Teach Paycheck and Payroll Basics
Understanding the payroll withholding system empowers individuals to make smarter choices about their paychecks. You can help increase public understanding of the payroll process in many ways:
Volunteer to educate high school aged students for PayrollOrg’s Money Matters program. PAYO provides a teacher’s guide, easy-to-follow lesson plan for the students, and resources to help you find a school or youth group to teach.
Contact your local library or civic organizations and present a workshop on payroll management and compliance issues for small business owners in your area.
Many grocery stores, rec centers, and restaurants have teenage employees who often don’t understand what payroll deductions are or how payroll withholding works. Host a “Paychecks 101” workshop for local businesses that employ teens and young adults. Share the “Understanding Your Pay” eBook or use teach using the Money Matters program materials to make an impact.
